The Inspiration . . .

Fostering, Adopting, Receiving, Opening, Serving

The first adoption took place many years ago in Egypt. A Hebrew woman gave birth to a son, that was named Moses. This was during a time when Pharaoh feared the Hebrews were becoming too numerous. He ordered that Hebrew baby boys be killed. Moses’ birth mother put him in a basket and set it among the reeds on the bank of the Nile river. When Pharaoh’s daughter heard the baby crying she felt sorry for him. She paid a Hebrew woman to nurse him. Then she took him and raised him as her own, as royalty.

While we do not live in Egypt, we do live in a time that is full of children that need someone to open their hearts and care for them. As current and former foster parents, we are familiar with some of the challenges that foster and adoptive parents face. New parents often have nine months to prepare for the arrival of their bundle of joy. During this time, many new parents have a baby shower to help them prepare. Foster and adoptive parents are rarely afforded this luxury as people aren’t sure if this is a moment to be celebrated.

At Faros Daughter, we believe that those opening their hearts and homes to vulnerable children have just as many needs as new parents. Children may be brought to them in the middle of the night with only a few hours’ notice. They might be receiving a child for the first time or growing their current family. We would like to provide a central place for foster and adoptive parents to fill out a “spritz” registry. New parents often have a “shower” or a “sprinkle”. Foster and adoptive parents have just as many if not more needs. A spritz is a great way for family and friends to support and celebrate growing hearts.

Foster and adoptive parents can fill out a spritz registry. This is similar to a baby or wedding registry. The difference is that we are not a specific store and parents can put in all of their needs. They can then share their lists with family and friends that want a way to help them in their journey.

Fostering can be a challenge. At Faros Daughter we strive to provide resources both physical and informational to help foster and adoptive parents along the way. Stress is a factor in every parent’s life and can have an even bigger impact on the lives of foster and adoptive parents. Our supportive community and stress management tools can be additional support for foster families!
